The Evolving Universe Some day the cells in your body will stop processing oxygen and food into energy and your organs will fail and the last neuron in your brain will fire, but our world and our universe will continue to evolve. Some day our species will cease to exist but our universe will continue to evolve. (How far into the future that event happens is mostly within our control. It is our choice to allow our evolution to continue for less than ten thousand more years or more than ten thousand billion more years.) Some day our sun will age like all other stars and grow in size but long before that its slowly increasing radiation will eventually surpass the ability of our magnetosphere and multiple layers of our atmosphere from protecting us and our planet could become uninhabitable, but our world and our universe will continue to evolve. Some day that increased radiation penetrating what’s left of our atmosphere could end all life on this planet as we know it, but our world and our universe will continue to evolve. Some day our sun will enter its red giant stage and grow in size as it begins to fuse heavier elements to see its radius increase in size to approximately the current orbit of our planet, but our universe will continue to evolve. Some day if we have not figured out in the next 750 million years or so how to manipulate the orbit of our planet to outpace Sol’s natural evolution then even manmade habitable environments will succumb to the natural evolution of our planet, but our universe and The Universe will continue to evolve. Someday we could choose to outlive our planet’s eventual demise by being well situated amongst all different types of celestial bodies inside Sol’s heliosphere, and our universe and The Universe will continue to evolve. Some day we could choose to be well disbursed amongst other planetary systems in our localized arm of our galaxy and survive for billions or trillions of years or we could foolishly throw away our future too focused on today and not enough on tomorrow, but our universe and The Universe would continue to evolve. Some day our galaxy will merge with its neighbor and become a newer larger galaxy and as time goes on most all other galaxies will slowly disappear from sight, but our universe and The Universe will continue to evolve. Some day the current arms of our galaxy may become unrecognizable long after it merges with Andromeda while our species has the potential to eventually colonize many more planetary systems than just our localized arm and could choose to spread out across Milkdromeda seeking peaceful and prosperous coexistence with all species we encounter, and our universe and The Universe will continue to evolve. Some day we might succeed in uniting as a single species with a goal of improving the basic quality of life for as many living organisms as we possibly can and begin to turn this planet into the Utopian like existence that is possible if we choose to seek it or we can allow greed and ignorance and prejudice to bring about the demise of our species millions or billions of years prematurely, but our universe and The Universe would continue to evolve. Some day we might fail to figure out how to unite as a species to benefit all species sharing our one home, our big wet rock hurling through space time at about 1.3 million miles per hour, and see centuries or millennia of suffering for the majority of our planet’s inhabitants while a select few see lives of luxury and excess, and our world and our universe and The Universe will continue to evolve. Some day we might unite in voice and unite in action and see the evolution of our economic systems and political systems to become what we direct them , drive them, and craft them to become, and our world and our universe will continue to evolve. Some day the last footprints our world and species ever existed will have long since faded away, but our universe and The Universe will continue to evolve.
